What instruments are in your groups?
We have a string quartet, which is the classic chamber group, and it consists of two violins, a viola, and a cello. We also have a string duet, which is a violin and a viola.
What does your fee for a wedding ceremony include?
Our fee for a wedding ceremony includes thirty minutes of prelude music, processionals, any music you want during the ceremony, and enough music to get you and your guests out of the ceremony area after the service.
Do you play for cocktail hours and receptions?
Absolutely! If you would like additional string music during your reception or cocktail hour, we can tailor the type of music you want to help provide just the right ambience. We have played for an hour during cocktails, when we were followed by a band or DJ, and then we have played for 3 or 4 hours for the entire reception. In other words, we are flexible.
Do you play music that is not included on your music lists? We have a special song that we are hoping you can play.
We are happy to learn and play new music for your special day—we can pretty much play anything, if we have music—but the trouble is finding it. It often takes hours to find arrangements of songs, especially pop music. As such, we charge a small fee to find an arrangement of things outside the typical string quartet repertoire. If this is something you’d like to pursue, we will want to get started on this process right away, as it is usually the most troubling and time-consuming part of planning your ceremony.
We would like a vocalist to participate in our wedding ceremony. Can you accompany them?
We are happy to accompany a soloist during or before your ceremony. We have a list of talented vocalists with whom we've played before, should you need suggestions. If you would like to use a soloist who is unfamiliar to us, we'll want to know about their experience level before agreeing to accompany them. We find that most pieces will come together with no more than 30 minutes of rehearsal time and a phone call or two. When you fill our our contact form, please let us know that you're interested in a vocalist to receive details about pricing.
Can I choose the songs for my processionals?
Of course! Usually brides and grooms pick music for the following:
Wedding party processional
Bride's processional and
the recessional.
Sometimes they also want to pick music for the Seating of the Mothers/Grandmothers, Unity Candle, or communion. You would be welcome to pick the pieces that you'd like played for the prelude and processionals, etc; you could let us pick; or we could do a combination. You would just let us know what you'd prefer. We will be happy to give as much or as little input as you'd like with these decisions. We would need to decide on musical selections by about a month before the wedding.
I have no idea how to choose the pieces of music for my processionals. Can you help?
We love helping couples choose music for their wedding services! We are happy to provide you with some of our favorite pieces for your processionals or to help you design a service that is unique to you. We suggest going to iTunes, Spotify, or your favorite music service and searching for "string quartet wedding music" -- you'll be able to hear many choices. You can also listen to the pieces on our Music Lists there. And if you just want us to choose, we are more than happy to do that as well--we want to make it simple and easy for you.
How does the process of booking Ivy Creek Strings work?
First, you'll want to check to see if we're available by filling out our contact form. We will respond to your inquiry with an email, and we will give you a price quote then as well, if we're available on your date. Let us know then, if you would like to book Ivy Creek Strings for your event, and we will send you a contract. The next step is to complete the contract and send in your deposit by cash or check. This reserves your event on our calendar. From there, all we will need to do is to decide on your processionals. We like to have all of this completed by a month before the wedding date in order to ensure that we can serve you best.
Do you attend the wedding rehearsal?
Our fees do not include our attendance at the rehearsal because most brides find that our attendance is not necessary. We are very adept at timing our music to whatever is going on during the processionals and ceremony, and the goal is that it all ends up being very easy and seamless for our brides, wedding party, and wedding coordinators. However, if you should decide that you want us to be at the rehearsal as well, please let us know, and we can include it in our pricing.
What will the musicians wear?
The gentlemen wear tuxedos, and the ladies wear all black formal, wedding-appropriate attire.
What time will Ivy Creek Strings arrive at my event location?
We arrive to set up thirty minutes before we are scheduled to begin playing. For example, this means that if your prelude begins at 4:30 and your ceremony begins at 5pm, we will arrive at 4:00pm.
